TowerPinkster, an architecture, engineering, and interior design firm based in Michigan, Indiana, and Kentucky, is looking for a talented Senior Structural Engineer with ten to fifteen years of professional experience in the AEC industry. This position is responsible for the structural analysis and design of buildings and assisting in the preparation of structural engineering calculations and specifications. Must be able to develop drawings within a BIM Environment. This position carries with it the potential to develop into a leadership role, providing coaching and mentoring of the Kalamazoo Structural Team. These responsibilities would include assisting in management of workload for team members who report to you, including scheduling of team members, providing mentoring, career pathing and professional development of team members reporting to you, and partnering with the Manager of the Department to create an effective leadership team and consistently look for process improvement opportunities.

CLIENT
  • Play a part in maintaining long-standing relationships with clients.
  • Assist in business development functions, including networking to create connections with potential department candidates, and maintain involvement in professional organizations.
  • Participate in the process of interviewing prospective new clients to understand their needs.
  • Collaborate with the client in planning design, determining solutions and scope of the project to develop a structural approach to meet client needs.
PROJECT
  • Serve as a senior subject matter expert to resolve project structural challenges.
  • Lead and coordinate project efforts with other disciplines, clients, and construction partners to meet schedule milestones.
  • Assist with quality checks and ensure the reviews of all projects.
  • Conduct facility assessments, field assessments, and engineering studies.

MENTORSHIP
  • Mentor team to share experiences, knowledge, skills, and lessons learned for continuous improvement.
  • Assist the Manager of the department in creating training and mentorship opportunities for individuals and the team.
  • Lead, teach, and guide other project team members to assist in their growth and development.

LEADERSHIP
  • Provide input on work priorities and project scheduling.
  • Conduct quality control reviews on various projects
  • Serve as a structural engineering subject matter expert to resolve project issues.
  • Provide input to department standards and procedures.
  • Leadership duties which could develop as part of this role:
    • Establish appropriate staffing levels and workload assignments through collaboration with the Manager, Operations and Business Development Team.
    • Project future staffing needs and participate heavily in recruiting efforts for future staff.
    • Meet on a regular basis with the Manager to understand the entire workload and projections of the firm and evaluate the assignments for current and future projects.
    • Guide young professionals through the Licensure Process.
    • Conduct performance reviews of team members reporting to you.
    • Partner with the Manager to present summary of performance reviews and discuss merit increase recommendations for the team members reporting to you.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil, Structural or Architectural Engineering from an accredited program.
  •   Professional Licensure.
  •   15 years’ experience in the A/E Industry preferred.
  •   10+ years’ experience leading project teams.
  •   In-depth knowledge of A/E construction documents and construction industry preferred.
  •   Ability to lead and support a talented team.
  •    Participation in professional organization memberships.
  • Knowledge and experience in REVIT software, as well as standard structural engineering software (RISA 3D, RAM Structural System, RAM Elements, Tedds, and similar programs).
  • The appropriately qualified candidate should be able to perform in-depth structural analysis and design on a wide variety of structural materials and systems, including concrete, steel, light gauge steel, masonry, and timber.
  • Coordination of design work with in-house staff professionals including architects and other engineering disciplines.
  • Assist in preparing structural engineering-related calculations, specifications, and developing drawings within a BIM environment.
